Musée Karo: Elles

Artist: Lionel Attere

Through the exposition Elles, the artist Lionel Attere presents to us his works from the time he spent in Villa Karo’s residency. The exposition also reveals the history of African masks through the bodies of his models.

The portraits pay a vibrant tribute to the women, who work night and day through the ordinary, ungrateful days, to take care of their own and their families needs. To the women, who who didn’t choose ease, but rather work, that would give them a better life of dignity. The artist has approached these women and listened to their stories, to be able to forward them through his brush strokes. For the artist, these women and their journeys deserve to be known, in order to motivate the younger generations to follow in their footsteps.
