In February this year, a new exhibition was arranged by Georgette Singbe, Claude West, Thibaut Bossa and Joachim Babanawo in Musée Karo; Reigns and Kingdoms. I asked Georgette to explain a bit further a few objects from the exhibition. The aim of the exhibition of Reigns and Kingdoms is to revive the memories of the kingdoms that have marked the West Coast of Africa and their Northern Sahelian borders, by examining symbols, objects and accessories, explains Georgette through an email exchange.
Helmikuussa Musée Karoon tuli uusi näyttely, Reigns and Kingdoms, kiitos Georgette Singbe, Claude West, Thibaut Bossa ja Joachim Babanawon. Pyysin Georgettea selittämään vähän enemmän muutamia esineitä näyttelystä. The first object we will look at is a magic bottle. The origin of the bottle is Watchi (Benin) which is used to contain a magical drink that can cure many diseases, especially mystical ones.

This mask is of ethnic Yoruba (Nigeria) used by hunters to bring about a successful hunt.

The last item we will explore is a family altar (Assin) origin of fon (Benin) which is an altar of the dead represented in each family to celebrate the cult of the dead. Each year a ceremony is held in front of the altar in remembrance of the deceased of the family.
